This capacity calculator has been developed to assist you with a reasonable estimation for your Event Space or Building capacity.
It does NOT exempt you from acquiring professional advice on an overall capacity assessment. The more complex the building is, the more complex the formulae needed to calculate the Total Safe Capacity.
This tool determines the basic capacity based on available fire exits in accordance with The Building Regulations 2010 Approved Document B (Fire safety).
The calculation assumes a normal risk premises with a medium fire growth rate, where users
are awake, familiar with their environment and there is suitable fire fighting equipment available.
1. Exit Widths
Enter exit widths (mm). The largest exit will automatically be discounted. If any exits are within 45 degrees of each other, tick the box below.
2. Floor Space Factor
Add floors and select the appropriate occupancy factor.

3. Final Safe Capacity
In accordance with fire safety regulations, the lowest value between Exit Widths and Floorspace Factor will be the Total Safe Capacity for the event. This number must not be exceeded.
